Live stream, time, date, how to watch

Pittsburgh Steelers third-string quarterback Dwayne Haskins will get the start over Ben Roethlisberger and Mason Rudolph against the Carolina Panthers, head coach Mike Tomlin announced Wednesday.

It’s a sort of full-circle moment for the former first-round pick, whose last start was against the Panthers in 2020 when he was with the Washington football team. In that contest, he completed 14 of 28 passes for 154 yards and two interceptions before Taylor Heinicke replaced Haskins in the fourth. He was released by Washington the next day.

The Steelers have the benefit of four preseason matchups – having played in the Hall of Fame Game – and will sit several starters in favor of evaluating their remaining talent. Carolina has the opposite strategy, opting to play their starters for about half of Friday’s game, including quarterback Sam Darnold.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Dwayne Haskins (3) passes against the Detroit Lions during the fourth quarter at Heinz Field. Pittsburgh won 26-20.
