Newcastle United have reportedly made contact with Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard through his entourage.
The Magpies are currently three points adrift of safety, and they are widely expected to spend during the January transfer window.
The club are eyeing multiple attacking additions, and Lingard has been earmarked as one of the prime transfer targets.
The attacker’s current deal with United expires at the end of the campaign, and they are likely to sanction his sale next month.
West Ham United have been heavily linked with Lingard following his successful loan stint with them earlier this year.
However, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Magpies are also in the mix. The 28-year-old is currently assessing his options.
Lingard has been offered a new deal by the Mancunian giants, but he has no plans of staying put due to the lack of game time.
He has played under 100 minutes of Premier League football, and it has proved costly as he has been dropped from England duty.
