Incoming Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is keen on signing Frenkie de Jong during the upcoming transfer window.
The Dutchman is eyeing a new holding midfielder this summer, and it appears De Jong is the one of the top names on his wishlist.
According to Florian Plettenberg, United are trying everything to sign De Jong and are currently verifying the finances required.
They have made contact with Barcelona’s hierarchy, but manager Xavi Hernandez has no plans of parting ways with De Jong.
De Jong has been a key player in the centre of the park for the Blaugrana, but there are still suggestions that he could be offloaded.
The club need to make a big-money sale before June 30, and De Jong, who is valued at €70m, could be sacrificed to balance the books.
It remains to be seen whether that happens as Xavi has constantly stated that the Netherlands international is very important to his plans.
Meanwhile, De Jong could also snub a summer move to Old Trafford as he wants to be playing in the Champions League next season.
