Manchester United have emerged as potential candidates to sign River Plate midfielder Enzo Fernandez this summer, according to Record.
The Red Devils have been keeping tabs on the Argentine for several months and they are now being fancied to make an approach.
The midfielder currently has a €20m release clause on his contact that should be easily triggered by United in the coming weeks.
However, a deal may not be straightforward for different reasons. Manchester City are likely to offer strong competition for the midfielder.
City signed Julian Alvarez from River Plate in January, and this could hand them a potential advantage in the pursuit of Fernandez.
Meanwhile, Fernandez is determined to stay put with the Argentine giants for the rest of the year, keeping the World Cup in mind.
He is afraid that a change in surroundings could hamper his form which may see him miss out on the Argentine squad for the showpiece.
United may need to loan him out for the remainder of the year, suppose they are able to seal a transfer agreement during the summer.
