Manchester United will reportedly need to pay around £45m to sign Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves this month.
The Portuguese has been a long-term target for the Red Devils, and he is under consideration by the club’s hierarchy.
It was recently claimed that United could make a £35m bid for Neves, but Wolves are said to demand more for him.
The Midlands outfit are reluctant to lose their prized asset unless they receive a fee of £45m before the transfer deadline.
It is unclear whether the Red Devils will meet the price tag. The board are hesitant to spend in the next few days.
Interim boss Ralf Rangnick has asked for a new midfielder, but the hierarchy are reluctant to back him with any signings.
They prefer to wait until the summer when a permanent manager is recruited. Their stance is unlikely to change.
Aside from United, Arsenal have also been linked with Neves, but their priority remains on pursuing a new striker.
