Lingard off to Serie A this summer

Newcastle United have decided against signing Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard this summer, The Telegraph claims.

The England international was on their radar during the January transfer window, but a loan deal did not materialise.

Lingard was open to joining them before the deadline, but they were put off by the stunning £16m fee demand from United.

The 29-year-old will now leave the club on a free transfer when his deal expires in June, but the Magpies aren’t keen.

Lingard is said to want £150,000-a-week in wages on top of a significant signing-on fee which has put off the Magpies.

The Tyneside outfit were taken over by a Saudi-led consortium earlier this season, and will have more funds to spend.

However, the hierarchy are determined to keep the wage structure at check, which has ended their pursuit of Lingard.

Lingard could still secure a big-money move this summer with plenty of interest from Juventus, Inter and AC Milan.
