Apple celebrates Pride with rainbow watch bands, watch face

(Pocket-lint) – Apple has announced new bands and a watch face for Apple Watch to celebrate Pride Month this June.

The bands are called the Pride Edition Sport Loop and the Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop. The Pride Edition Sport Loop features the word “pride” woven into the company’s classic sport loop style. It has rainbows from different Pride flags, including colours like light blue, pink, white, black, and brown.

Light blue, pink, and white symbolise transgender and non-binary individuals, while brown and black represent the Black and Latinx communities.

As for the Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop, Apple said it is designed to celebrate “the full spectrum of the rainbow” and features a matching Nike Bounce face.

The new bands are available to buy for $49/£49 on and through the Apple Store app in the US and UK.

They will be available at Apple Store locations starting 26 May 2022. The Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop will also be available from soon.

The new Pride Watch face is also now available. It’s exclusive to Apple Watch Series 4 models or later (running watchOS 8.6 or later).

It too is inspired by various Pride flags. Apple said the face “combines colors to represent the strength and mutual support of the LGBTQ+ movement.”  It has colourful threads that move when the Digital Crown on Apple Watch is rotated, the display is tapped, or your wrist is raised.

A new year and there are new Pride bands and watch faces to enjoy. This time, the rainbow theme continues, balancing white and black bands to suit your wardrobe and your confidence.

The Pride Edition Nike Sport Loop (pictured above) is the bolder of the two in terms of colour. However, it’s also the more subtle in terms of messaging. It sports a bright and vibrant rainbow design that sits really nicely with the new Threads watch Face. There’s also an a separate, blended rainbow watch face to go with it, but be warned, you’ll need to buy a Nike Apple Watch to access it.

The bolder band, in my opinion, is the Pride Edition Sport Loop (picutred above in white). Delivering a more “summer feel” to the experience, it also comes with a rainbow design, but one that is much softer in its colour pallete – partly due to the rainbow colours hiding behind a white fabric overlay within the strap.

Cut into that soft white fabric overlay is the word “pride” in cursive writing, revealing those strong rainbow colours beneath. The strap looks really good next to the Pride Threads watch face, which isn’t the easiest to read when looked straight on, but is when viewed at a glance on your wrist from a distance.

The bands offer a comfortable fit, come in all relevant Apple Watch sizes, and are washable. If you’re keen to show your “true colours” or support this Pride season, it’s a must have.
